"Eh finish up your rice, African kids are dying of hunger."

One of the most over-used phrase when someone wants you to finish your food.

It got be thinking, is the emphasis, concern and care on the African kids dying, or is it just, really, a convenient lingo to get whoever to clean up their rice?

I was blog hopping sometime last week, and I came across something someone wrote which, honestly, disgusted me.

I'll summarize what she said,

" I hate my parents because they don't buy me designer clothes. I hate it when people tell me African kids are dying when I don't finish my food. Who cares if they are dying? They are poor and deserve to die, I'm rich and have the money, so there is NO COMPARISON to be made between me and them. Ugly and poor people exist so that the beautiful people can be even more beautiful. So don't you even dare to compare me with THEM!!"

Spoilt? Indifferent? Selfish? Immature? Naive?

What do you call people who couldn't careless about the sufferings of other people, or even think that fortunate people like us don't share ANYTHING in common with those that have lost love ones in Myanmar, in China these recent days?

It would be quite useless to paste a picture of kids suffering in Darfur here, to somewhat evoke a temporary sense of pity for them, if everyday we are quite numb when we read and see it, over and over and over again in the newspaper.

"Yeah....aiyo...another earthquake"..*flips to the next page*
"Oh...another tsunami?..." *flips*
"Another Massacre?... oh...so scary...lucky here don't have." *flips flips*

What really provoked me in what she said, was that "NO COMPARISON" should be made between us and the African kids...as if they were somehow less human than we are.

Seriously, what do we have in common with people dying and suffering in Darfur, Myanmar or China...?

I'll tell you what,

We share not a single thing in common, except our humanity.

And for THAT, they deserve to be at least talked about with the same amount of respect, if not more, than what we show the people around us.

Petrol Hike

Been getting so many news about the petrol hike in the past few hours!
Spreading like wildfire. * is there such thing as calmfire?*

"70% rise! 50% rise! RM 2.50 hike! RM 2.80 hike!"

Like a typical Malaysian, I went down to ask my mom to go join the entire world pump petrol.

15 minutes in this...

Mom decided to turn back....

Getting out was also a problem really.

Just to get the facts right, it's RM 2.70 per litre. Road tax is reduced though *mutters under my breath, not like I have a car!!!! =(*

I wander, I wonder..

A 'toilet break',
a breather,
from the quarantined chamber,
where silently.. life drains out of you.

The boredom, the room, the torture.

Away I skipped,
out of the dreary place,
3rd floor corridor never brought me such joy before!

To the left!
The smell of fresh sun rays.
To the right!
The sweet fragrance of the cleaner lady's new detergent.

Ahead, yes, my journey is still long,
savoring every moment of it.

Pass the hall,
The empty piano ,
soundless... thus emotionless.

I walked into the "Ladies Staff Only" bathroom,
a dead cockroach to welcome me.
"Why do you (Mr Cockroach) always die, lying on your back, with your icky legs up like that?"
Life's mystery.

I see my reflection,
and grinned...
then sighed.
The transience of my new found freedom.

A plug next to the mirror caught my eyes.
never before.
"What are you doing here? A hairdryer plug?"
"I wonder why I never noticed you."

The empty corridor,
the droopy trees,
the empty hall,
the lead-coloured clouds in a far distance,
accompanied me back.

To the boredom, the room, the torture.

I wander, I wonder...

With a last glance to this all too familiar corridor,
a huge breath,
I pushed the door open
embracing the emptiness that welcomed me.

By-product of 2 hours in a quarantined room with no one to talk to.
